Danyell Nelson Hewlett, professionally known as DJ Gotta Strut, is a DJ, actor, event promoter, bartender, writer and business owner, hailing from the Midwest’s city of Racine, Wisconsin. Her upbringing in Memphis, TN, impacted her love of gritty, hard hitting heavy beats, and freestyling over music. Her combined love for Southern Hip Hop and Pop hits, make for a unique music style. DJ Gotta Strut’s name came from the desire to maintain a style all her own, while also being confident and strutting through life with her head held high. High heels, high hopes, and high goals are her mottos. Danyell has a plethora of experience in various entertainment outlets. Early on, Danyell was previously a well–known door girl, host, and staple in Memphis nightlife. She also had a verse featured on Memphis rapper, Z- Dogg’s, “Freeze Up and Choose Up”. Danyell is a popular bartender who worked at various Atlanta nightclubs and at both celebrity, personal and public events. Danyell used her marketing and networking skills professionally, as an assistant and head of marketing and promotions for an entertainment and promotions company. Danyell was pictured as a model at former NFL player, Deon Grant’s birthday party, in the Hip Hop Weekly Magazine. With a keen fashion sense, Danyell embarked on starting Gotta Strut Boutique, in 2014, which was a featured sponsor in the 2013 New York Fashion Week’s Fashion Bloc Pre-fashion Week Kickoff show. She also previously owned a shoe boutique. Danyell was featured on American Soul and as a DJ on the television reboot of Dynasty. She was also casted as a DJ on Dolly Parton Theatre. Danyell can also be seen as background talent on Star, Black Lightning, and various other TV shows.
